Frequently Asked Questions with The Bushcraft Company

How do I book?

Click here to follow our simple steps for a quick and easy booking process.

Can you come and visit me at my school?

Absolutely. We are more than happy to visit you at your school. Simply give us a call and book an appointment with one of our School Correspondents.

Can I visit one of the centres before I book?

We always welcome visitors so please do contact us and book in a preview visit at one of our centres.

Where are your centres located?

We have centres in Kent, Wales, Hampshire, Cheshire and Oxfordshire.

Could you run a course on school grounds?

We can run daylong courses on school pitches, and if you have sufficient grounds, we will also be able to run 24 hour camps. In this instance we will visit the grounds beforehand and provide a site specific risk assessment. Please see our Schools Residentials page for our full range of services.

What are your minimum numbers?

We require a minimum booking of 20 students normally but if you contact us we would love to help if we can.

What are your maximum numbers?

Depending on the dates, at each centre we can accommodate up to 250 students from any one school at a time. At Cornbury Park we can accommodate up to 600 students!

Do our teachers need to attend the course?

Health and Safety legislation makes it compulsory for at least one member of your staff to accompany your students on a residential course. We offer one free place for your staff for every ten students attending.

However, we are proud to provide 24 hour supervision so please do not feel you need to send more members of staff than you would like.

Where will our teachers sleep?

We provide a separate, single sex camp area for your staff with large bell tents and camp beds.

Could someone from The Bushcraft Company come and speak to our parents?

This is something we often do for schools and we are more than happy to arrange a parents' assembly with you, where we can answer all of their question. Alternatively we can equip you with a dvd or power point presentation.

What kind of food will the students eat?

All of our food is high in quality, nutrition and taste and all the meals are freshly prepared on site by our allocated Catering Managers. Meals might include whole salmon and haunches of venison.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

We cater for all special requirements, including vegetarian, halal, kosher, pescetarian, celiac and lactose free and pride ourselves on providing delicious meals for all dietary needs.

Are your staff eCRB certified?

Yes. All of our staff hold enhanced disclosure eCRB certificates.

What is your Health and Safety protocol?

Our Health and Safety management system ensures that we maintain the highest possible standards when it comes to first aid, fire precautions, sanitation, accommodation, staff training and assessment, risk assessments, and insurance. For more information please refer to our Health and Safety page.

Do your staff hold Food Hygiene certificates?

Yes. On each camp there is a designated Catering Manager who handles all food preparation and cooking and they hold a level II Food Hygiene certificate. We are also a certified catering company and operate within the Food Standards Agency.

Are your staff First Aid qualified?

Yes. On each camp there will be at least one qualified First Aider and many of our staff are trained up to FPOS level. We also have a Medical Advisor in house. We also have qualified lifeguards for the swimming activities.

What are the facilities for sanitation and hygiene like?

At each camp there will be pit latrines for the children, one for the boys and one for the girls. Pit latrines are the most hygienic and environmentally friendly toilet facilities to use in a remote environment. Each latrine will be screened off with a tarpaulin, and located at least 50 feet away from central camp. The children will be given instructions on how to use the latrines at the start of the camp. On a residential camp the children will be able to shower using our solar showers and bio-degradable soap.

What is the LOTC quality badge?

The LOTC quality badge is awarded by the Learning Outside The Classroom council and it is a nationally recognised symbol of quality for providers. The Bushcraft Company actively champions all incentives which encourage and support outdoor education opportunities for every child.

How many members of staff will be present on the camp?

On each camp we provide a 10:1 children to staff ratio.
