The Penshurst Place Estate covers 2,500 acres, stretching along the River Medway valley - from Tonbridge to the North, to the bottom of Fordcombe Hill to the South.
Set in the beautiful Weald of Kent, Penshurst Place has stood on the banks of the river Medway since the 14th century. The property was owned by Henry VIII, after he beheaded the previous owner, before it became the property of the Sidney family in 1552. It has been in the same family to the present day – with an important historical and literary heritage.
The historic gardens are as old and as significant as the house. These enchanting formal gardens were laid out in Tudor times and have remained remarkably true to their early design. Over a mile of yew hedging separates this 11 acre walled garden into a series of self-contained ‘rooms’. Each garden offers an abundance of variety in form, foliage and bloom, which ensures a continuous display from Spring to Autumn.
The Parkland is 80 hectares and is also an ancient deer park. - If you would like to visit Penshurst Place, please contact us to book a preview visit.
