The adventure in The Desert explores ancient survival methods, equipping students with the fundamental skills they need to survive in this exciting and challenging environment. With an emphasis on experiential learning, the students will be able to put into the practice the many skills they have learnt in the UK, allowing them to hone their techniques and reach new goals.
Each day, the students will focus on a specific aspect of desert survival: water, food, fire and shelter. Working in small groups they will have to find, collect and purify water; learn how to track animals and consider how ancient hunting methods have developed through time; practice primitive fire-lighting techniques including solar and friction, and seek out natural resources to build shelters that protect them from heat exposure.
The Desert environment presents a number of hazards, including psychological pressures and heat related illnesses, as well as poisonous plants and dangerous insects and animals. Through a series of workshops led by in-country experts, we will teach the students how to recognise and avoid these risks, giving them the confidence to explore the desert environment.
This breathtaking trip includes everything from camel riding and desert trekking, to visiting a nearby village, where the students will meet members of the local community and get a glimpse of real life in The Desert.
Living in a stunning tented camp, surrounded by roaring fires, the students will spend their evenings cooking traditional desert foods, playing games under the stars and learning celestial navigation techniques on a midnight walk.
Put your skills to the test in one of the most extreme environments on the planet and embark on a journey of personal development.
