The Bushcraft Company also offers a range of wilderness cookery courses for students aged 11-18 and you can choose from either a daylong, 24 hour or two day residential programme. Our wilderness cookery courses are designed to increase the students' awareness of the natural British landscape, teaching them traditional methods of bringing food from the wild to the plate.
These courses teach students how to identify and prepare wild foods, through extensive plant walks across our woodlands. They will use numerous cooking methods including pit ovens, hot rocks and open fires, and a wide variety of ingredients such as rabbit, venison, fresh vegetables and herbs, allowing them to have fun with food and discover all sorts of new tastes and skills.
Through these courses, young people become aware of where food comes from, developing a sense of self-reliance that was intrinsic to previous generations, but has fallen by the wayside in an age of fast-food. By preparing their own meals, students are able to take charge of their health and develop a positive attitude towards food, and all of the skills they learn are easily transferable to the kitchen at home. If you would like to see a sample programme or to discuss these courses in more detail, please contact us.
